Bridge in troubled waters

The Manilla Railway Bridge (Viaduct) was constructed in 1908

What an impressive sight this is.

I had a short visit to Manilla, 45 kilometres northwest of Tamworth, this week to see it for myself.

The bridge span is impressive even with a drought effected Namoi Rivier

This now disused railway bridge or viaduct weaves through a flood prone area on the beautiful township and crosses the Namoi River.

It was opened in September 1908 and recently it has been threatened to be pulled down. The community is fighting the threat as its historic significance can not be denied.

The Manilla Railway Bridge was built to keep the NSW rail system high and dry in 1908

To a layperson such as myself it is a marvel of architecture and well worth a visit to the township.
